What are Postgraduate Courses?

Postgraduate courses are the masters level degree followed after a student completes his undergraduate degree. While pursuing a masters degree, students get to choose a specialised area of the subject. There is a wide range of specialisations available at the masters level. In the UK, students get an option of part-time as well as full-time masters degree. The full-time masters degree in UK lasts for a year. After completing a masters, students have more chances of getting a job in a specific field. 

Types of Postgraduate Degrees in UK

UK Universities offer a wide and diverse range of masters programmes. There are two types of masters programmes in the UK:

Taught Masters

The taught masters programme will involve a mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. In this type, of course, students will complete a number of modules in a series in a fixed time period. Basically, the taught masters include Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), and Master of Engineering (MEng).

Research Masters

The research masters offers students an opportunity to undertake research activities. This course includes very less or negligible theoretical knowledge. Generally, the research masters include a Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Master of Science (MSc), and Master of Research (MRes). These degrees are similar to a PhD but not as academically demanding, with much shorter papers.
